Our cat6500 (Supervisor Engine 720) started reporting packet drop storm control message in log for it's 10Gig port that is used as an interconnect to the its peers. When you run "show interfaces TenGigabitEthernet 7/2 counters nonzero", the "InBcastPkts" is showing "608825477". That number was 1/2 less 6 hours ago. Our setup is 2 x cat6500 in an active standby setup.
Message in "show log"
%PM_PLATFORM-5-PORTDROP: Port TenGigabitEthernet7/2 dropped packets due to storm control
Surprisingly it returned "Not found" when submitted through the Error Message decoder. Our storm-control is configured at 30.00. We do not have multicast traffic/applications.
How to trace the cause of this ?

Hello Jamal,
what is the cpu usage?
sh proc cpu
sh proc cpu history
do you see in log messages any message related to STP activity?
show spanning-tree detail
sh spanning-tree detail | inc last change
can give you the last topology change for each vlan
to complete your information may you post
sh module
sh ver | inc image
this can be helpful in order to perform a bug search if the network is stable.
Hope to help
Giuseppe

Hi Giuseppe,
We have expolored the venues mentionned. We had a monitor session configured on the cat and we're gonna run a tcpdump to catch bcast/mcast traffic.
Thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated.
