12.2(58)SE causing crashes

Just upgraded a couple switches (3560 and 2960) and after the reload with the new image i started to get alerts from my SNMP mgt tool saying Memory issues. Then the switches both crashed and rebooted. Any suggestions? I removed the image and put the old one back on but during that tftp the 3560 crashed and now is bricked until i can use XModem. Why would such a long awaited release cause such issues?

I found it in the Release Notes. Maybe i should have read it 100% before i upgraded!

As far as I can see, 12.2(58)SE for 2960 was either pulled back or got hidden for me. Lucky, that I could not even download it, as this release became partner-only locked, with entry-level CCO account I was rejected immediately. Wondering why, L2-only switch images were always public to download for everyone.

There were very large bugs in the 58 release.  When I mean "large" I meant ANYONE can easily hit the bug that can cause your switch to crash.  It's that extensive.  (58)SE1 will be released in the next two weeks.

Do you know if 58SE1 will still be limited to cisco partners, or remains available for anyone to download?

Hi Richard,

When 12.2(58)SE1 will be released (approximate schedule in 2 weeks time) anyone with a valid Service Contract can download this IOS.

Ok, I meant valid service contract. Still dont understand why, 55SE1 is available without any contract idiocracy.

Never heard of this before.  Everytime I download a software for a particular appliance, my CCO login is verified against my service contract.  If, for example, I'm downloading the IOS for a ME 3600 but I don't have a service contract for that appliance then I won't be allowed to proceed further.

Prehistoric entry-level L2 devices (read: 2950 family and 2960 family for example) never required contract to download updated IOS. You can check very easily: no contractrequired icon next to the image name under download section. I am extremely "happy" about this new practice... luckily not much issue affects my environment, so as it is not critical for me to upgrade.
