Hi everybody
My colleague recently upgraded the RAM in a 1760 router (which has a VPN module installed).
He informs me that the router now has 192 MB DRAM, and when it boots/POSTs it sees all the RAM, but the IOS only sees 144 MB. He adds that when he tried a different IOS, it saw all the memory but didn't see the VPN module. He has now gone on holiday leaving me to pick up the piecesâ¦
Does the 1760 actually support 192 MB? There are a few threads about it, but none seem to have a firm outcome. And if it does, what IOS will see it and the VPN module? (I'll add what version it is currently running when I get it front of itâ¦)
Thanks in advance
Geoff

1760 will only support DRAM of up to 128 mb.
Look at Table #7.

But the Portable Product Sheet says it supports up to 160 mb: http://www.cisco.com/web/partners/downloads/765/tools/quickreference/routermemory.pdf
I've got a maintenance window later tonight, I'll follow up then.

OK then...
When the router POSTs, it states 'C1700 platform with 196608 Kbytes of main memory'.
We were intending to run c1700-advipservicesk9-mz.124-23.bin, but that only enabled 144 MB (131072K/16384K).
c1700-entservicesk9-mz.123-17.bin enabled the full 192 MB (180224K/16384K), but didn't support the installed WIC-4ESW or MOD1700-VPN. c1700-ipvoicek9-mz.124-3b.bin also supported 192 MB (180224K/16384K) but not the MOD1700-VPN.
c1700-advsecurityk9-mz.124-9.T.bin supports 192 MB (180224K/16384K) and the installed WICs and modules.

Hi Geoff,
Unfortunately, Cisco's such a big organization and updating volumes of documentation can be a hit-and-miss. I based my decision on the data sheet, however, I'm not saying that this is more accurate.
If 192 mb is not working properly, try using 128 mb and see if there are any improvements.
