1G and 10Gig negotiable copper port in 6500/4500

Hi all,

I have a requirement of 10gig copper port module, but it should be negotiable to 1gig also.

I was just looking at 16-Port 10GbE Copper Module (WS-X6716-10T-3C) does it supports 1gig(1000mbps)speed also?

Is there any other module which will meet my requirement? I know SFP+ slots in 4500 switches supports both 1g as well as 10g trancievers but there is no copper tranciever option in this.

Can you please suggest? any other alternative recommendation will also help as in WS-X6716-10T-3C it will be 4:1 oversubscription.

Thanks,

Raghavendra

Hi Raghavendra,

The datasheet does not mention anything about being able to use the 10Gig copper with lower speed (1Gig).  So, I think, it is fixed at 10Gig only.

Also, if you are planning to use it in the 6500 series, you need IOS SXI5 to support the module

Thanks Reza,

Is there any other modules or products recomended in this case? 10gig line speed is also a concern (4:1 over subscription) here in 65k

Is there any other modules where we can insert both 10gig/1gig copper trancievers ?

You can wait for the VSS-Sup2T.

The 6716-10T will only negotiate to 10Gb because it doesn't make sense if it goes down to 1Gb.  If you want 1Gb, using Cisco marketing logic, get a copper 1Gb dedicated blade.

No, as Leo noted, it is just easier to get a Gig Module for your switch.  Also, as you already know the backplane is 40Gig per slot, so even a 48 port Gig nodule is not line rate.
