2811v network module

Dear All,

i have question about router 2811,

for now, all HWIC in 2811 is full,

Slot 0 : VIC2-2E/M

Slot 1 : VIC2-2E/M

Slot 2 :  WIC-1T=

Slot 3 :  HWIC-1FE

but we need add more 2 module VIC3-2E/M. can we use Network Module ?

example : add one NM-HD-2V + two VIC3-2E/M ?

please give me an info, can we do that? and whether it is the same as we use the VIC2-2E / M on HWIC slots

Hello Leornadus,

I do not see any restriction adding a Network module in your 2811 with the two VICs you mentioned or any hardware limitation for the utilization of all these VIC/HWIC combinaison =>

The different Cisco links states Cisco 2811 supports : 4 HWIC slots, 1 expansion network module slot, 2 PVDM slots, 2 AIM slots

As you suggested NM-HD-2V-(E in function of the needs) is the most appropriate choice in your scenario and supports two VIC3-2E/M =>

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps259/product_data_sheet09186a00800921e7_ps3115_Products_Data_Sheet.html

Minimum release for VIC3-2E/M is 12.4(20)T (or 12.4(15)XW) in « ipvoice IOS »– Table 4 (and 10) http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps5365/product_data_sheet0900aecd801c595e.html

The VIC3 utilization in a NM should be the same as if it was in a HWIC slot exept the interface naming will change => The NM-HD-2V will be changed to slot 1/x/y (instead of 0/./.)

Please note your already existing VIC-2E/M are not supported in the Cisco IP Communications Voice/Fax Network Modules (NM-HD-1V, NM-HD-2V and NM-HD-2VE).

As you may guess if you add this NM (with 2 VICs) there will be no more room in the 2811 :-)

And if another evolution is needed (!!!) either you can upgrade the hardware to a more large 28xx platform..Or to a ISR2 but in this case you will have to reconsider the complete compatibility matrix (another story …)..

I would also pay attention to the PVDM-2 requirments with the introduction of the NM and 2 VIC3-E/M (but I think the best if some information is needed on this would be to post in IP Telephony area in this case)…

Hope that helps.

Kind regards.

Karim
