2950 "failed POST in loopback test"

I tried to bring up a port at 2950 using "shut ->no shut", but the port keep saying "disable". Even no cable plug in the port still show light??!!!

log says:

Fa0/9 can't be brought up because it failed POST in loopback test

Is a hardware probelm ??

More than likely yes. I haven't heard of that error before, but generally if it's failing POST in any aspect, it's hardware.

Rico,

A failed post test in most cases are related to hardware issues, and in your case it is. If you find that this particular port is necessary you will need to have the switch RMA'd. You can find the results of POST from the last reload by issuing the "show post" command. There could be more than one port affected.
