Upgrading our equipment to 2960 XR switches.
We need redundant power.
Can I use power sharing?
If I have a 4 stack of switches do I only need 5 power supplies to have redundant power?
If I have a 3 stack I'll need 4, 2 stack 3?
Thanks

Hi,
You don't have to have 2 power supply per switch (stacking or not) but it is good idea to have a redundant power supply per switch. This way, if one PSU fails you still have a second one to operate the switch without any down time. If you are connecting phone to these switches make sure the second power supply can handle the POE load. Usually good idea for both power supplies to have same wattage.
from the data sheet:
The Catalyst 2960-XR switches support dual redundant power supplies. The Catalyst 2960-XR ships with one power supply by default. The second power supply can be purchased at the time of ordering the switch or as a spare. These power supplies have in-built fans to provide cooling.

Hi Billm,
Not sure if I understood your question completely, 2960 XR switches have only single power module as far as I know.
You can only plug in one power supply cable per switch in stack.
Can you please elaborate your question a bit?

Hi Reza,
Thanks, so I will need 2 power supplies per switch, while stacking, for the 2960 XR?
Thanks.

We purchased Cisco 2960XR IP lite switch 2nos. without stack module. We are going to connect Server 2nos. with cluster mode in to these switches. Please let me know how to connect these switches with HA without stack. Also Please let me know which IOS version will support for L3 routing in this switch.

The 2960 series switches don't support power stacking. Only 3750x and 3850 series do.
