Does anyone know if there is a way to configure a 2960L-SM-16PS switch via the IOS Console? This switch seems to have most of the standard IOS console commands with the exception of being able to go into global config mode. If I type in "config t" it gives me invalid input (even in enable mode). It seems like this IOS limits you to configuring via the web interface even though you can see the configuration with a show run command via CLI.
Is there any way to configure via CLI? What about switching IOS on the switch to one that allows this or is this outside the license?

Step 1 | If you want to configure wireless controller and APs, connect them now to the switch. Verify that no devices are connected to the switch. Initially, the switch acts as a DHCP server. |
Step 2 | Confirm that the STAT LED is solid green. This indicates that POST is complete. If the STAT LED turns amber, the device failed POST. Reconnect the AC power cord to the AC power connector of your device and to a grounded AC outlet. If the STAT LED still does not turn green, contact your Cisco representative or retailer. |
Step 3 | Connect a straight-through Category 5 Ethernet cable to a 10/100/1000 Ethernet port on the switch front panel and to the Ethernet port on the PC. |
Step 4 | Verify that the port LEDs on the PC and on your device are solid green or blinking green. This indicates a successful connection. |
Step 5 | Wait for a minute until the switch assigns an IP address to the PC. |
Step 6 | To log on to the device, type the IP address https://192.168.1.1 in the address bar of your Web browser on your PC and press Enter. |
Step 7 | Type the following default credentials: username (smartm) and password (c2960lsm) and click OK. It is recommended to create a new username and password after the first login and delete the default credentials. Continue configuration the device using the Cisco Configuration Professional for Catalyst. |

there is one idea in my mind here, are you using AAA for login and for exec ???

is this a new device?
you need to set up the initial setup
Step 5 The PC or terminal displays the bootloader sequence. Press Enter to display the setup prompt.
or access the GUI

This is a new device and initial setup (not using AAA). It seems like this particular model (Smart Managed Version) has CLI locked down so you can only configure Via GUI and doesn't have a configuration mode available via console or telnet/ssh. Just wondering if there is any way to switch to software image that lets you actually configure via CLI or some other workaround? These switches were a really good deal but annoying you only have GUI and not full CLI config mode.

still you need some config using CLI before you can using GUI.
so there is something here,
can you please use ? to see which command avaiable ?

It actually seems like it is a "smart managed" model that no configuration from the CLI is possible. It looks like you are supposed to connect your laptop to a switch port which assigns a IP address via DHCP and then connect in the web browser to the default 192.168.1.1 ip address and do all configuration via GUI. The CLI seems to only be for monitoring and no configuration whatsover. I can do a show run but not config t. output of ? is below.

Thanks for the detailed instructions. However, my question wasn't how to configure via GUI but if there was any way to convert the software or configuration to allow configuration via CLI?
12-28-2022 10:24 AM
enable Turn on privileged commands <<- this make me confuse, what enable list under enable mode , can you enter this command and then check again using ?
12-28-2022 10:40 AM
I already did use the enable command. The ? output is from enable mode. It looks like this particular switch model they removed the ability to run configuration commands from the CLI.
