Just a quick question re the new 2960s with flexstack. Anyone have experience of these switches and the flexstack feature? Good or bad?

Regards

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

Put 3 of these switches in with flexstack a few weeks back for a client. First exposure I've had with it but from all reports back from users there's been no issues, in fact the network is performing faster than the previous Cisco switches that were in place.

I have >300 of the 2960S in a stack.

Pretty good.  No need to use screws to secure the cable.  I have several FlexStack module that goes "nutty" on me.  Didn't have to RMA them.  I just gave them a few whacks on the table and they went fine.

Same process as the 3750 so it's like duck-in-the-pond.

Maximum of 4 2960S in a single stack.   10 Gbps (full duplex) backplane.

IOS upgrade is better because you don't need "/destination #" anymore.  The system knows how many switches to upgrade the IOS to.

Deploying/Staging the master switch is easy because I use Zero-Touch.

Things you need to consider though is that the 2960S does not have dual power supplies and will only do limited Layer 3 (static routes).
