hi All,

I have a concern with a phone connecting to a port. Port being shut by CDP. Any clue in understanding or alleviating would be of great help.

hi,

As per cisco explanation, Inline power is shut down because CDP consumption power on this Power over Ethernet (PoE) port is greater than the allocation power, the hardware interface limit, the user-configured maximum power, or the available power on this switch. [chars] is the interface.

Module   Available     Used     Remaining
             (Watts)        (Watts)    (Watts)
------   ---------   --------   ---------
     1           370.0          88.3       281.7

Interface Admin  Oper       Power   Device              Class Max
                                          (Watts)
--------- ------ ---------- ------- ------------------- ----- ----

 Gi1/0/46  auto   on               4.0     Ieee PD             1     30.0

This is as per switch not sure what should be checked

What type of phone is connected on the port? Is this issue visible for all ip phones?

Model - 7942, but the same phone works with another port in the switch without any issue. Even bypassed the connected and made a direct connection still same.

if the same phone works in another port, most likely that port is faulty.

you might want to connect a machine on gig1/0/46 and see if it can connect to the network

The phone shows in the port for some time before its kicked out.

Please check link below. You may need to configure "power inline auto" on gi1/0/46

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst2960/software/release/12-2_44_se/configuration/note/ol14988.html

The ports are already in Auto mode and a PC connected to port works fine, its when a phone connects its not getting powered up.

when you say auto mode, does it mean you have configured "power inline auto" under gi1/0/46 ?

hi All,

Just to update you all, i had a TAC raised and asked me to apply "power inline static max" and phone was detected with max watts.
