Hi All

Can anyone give me any info on Cisco's stance on the push towards the 9200 switches, these seem to be positioned to be a replacement of the 2960X switches, can anyone tell me if the 2960X will soon be discontinued in this case?

Many thanks

 - For a specific switch as or to  get related info you can always use :

Hi

yes the new 9k campus sets are the new switch series and quite stable now too , running same IOS-XE as previous switches 3650s/3850s etc, lately a lot of 2960 series have hit EOL but there is no word yet on the X series , if you are purchasing new equipment  a 9200 would be a better choice than a 2960 , the 9ks are more powerful switches newer technology and no chance of reaching EOL anytime soon

These 2 data sheets show the hardware and feature difference between both series

Hi there,

The 2960X has not had an EOL notice issued yet, once it has been you the switch still has between 5 and 6 years of support (only two of which will include regular software releases).

I imagine Cisco will aid your purchasing decision by dropping the 9200 price and making less frequent software releases for the 2960X, all this long before the 2960X is officially EOL’d.

Cheers,

Seb.

What is everyone else doing for the edge switching? are many people moving towards the 9200 ?

We started to move to 9ks campus , changing all our 3650s and 3850s out for 9ks moving forward , 45s replaced too coming up soon
The reason being we were deploying 4507s and the prices were coming in a lot cheaper for the newer 9400s like 20k a box , then we priced up the edge and seen it was the same couple of grand cheaper a box , we tested them couldnt find any issues that would prevent us from deploying them so we have started moving forward
There out couple years now at least so there stable , the difference that pushed us was also hardware spec 80gb uplinks standard module , faster backplane , same IOS-XE architecture were familiar with , the data sheets speak for themselves when you line them up beside current and new models
We were also upgrading ACS to NAC/ISE and the newer licenses on 9ks advantage come with user PI and ISE licenes included unlike the 3k series or 4ks so there were a few extra reasons

The government contracts I work on love to sweat their assets and flog them into the ground. I don't think I'll see a 9200 in production for a long time!!

Expect the EoS to be announced this year.
