3560 priority queue

Hi

Using a 3560/3750 as an aggregate switch for multiple ethernet circuits being terminated on a PE would it be unadvised to configure the priority queue on a trunk uplink to the PE ?

I'm thinking that if i'm aggregating many FE ports then the priority queue could see traffic a large proportion of the time and starve the other queues.

Possibly just configure appropriate shaped/shared values for the 4 Tx queues on the uplink and leave the priority queue off ?

Thanks, Stephen.

Hello Stevie,

It depends on your requirment and the type of traffic you need to priotrize,

If most of critical traffic atn the aggrgator to your PE node are classified and assigned the Priority queue, then I would say , its wise to implement it on the UPlinks towrads your PE. which ensures mission critical application are priotrized

However, keep in mind, if you have different Type of traffic that are not assigne to the Priority Queue, and its also important , the Priority queue can easily starve your other queues leaving others not to be served. this depends on the Need and consumption of your priority queue traffic.

This needs careful design,

  Regards,

  Mohamed

Thanks for the input again Mohamed.

I will have other important traffic that's not as time critical as voice so I will need to be wary not to starve that traffic.

I am inclined to leave the priority queue off unless evidence suggests the voice traffic is having problematic delays.

Stephen.
