I have a WS-c3650-PS-E switch. The "system" and "active" LED are solid amber and switch not getting POST. I have tried several time to go to rommon mode by pressing "Mode" button after restarting but not getting rommon mode also.
Note: After starting shown the below log:
"Booting...Initializing RAM+++++++@@@@@@@@...+++++++++++++++++++++++++++@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@done.Memory Test Pass! Base ethernet MAC Address: 00:35:1a:70:07:00 Interface GE 0 link down***ERROR: PHY link is down".
But not getting POST. The switch gone hold at this position. What is the reason for it? And how can I resolve it?

If its failing POST its most likely hardware , there is bugs like below that do cause failed reboots but they always pass POST first , if this was working and it failed and now wont even get to rommon , the actual board is probably gone internally , usually when they fail POST theers no coming back without getting it repolaced
Symptom: The switch will boot loop with the following messages: All packages are Digitally Signed Starting System Services Front-end Microcode IMG MGR: found 1 microcode images for 1 device. exatctly so the switch cannot go through hardware POST so it needs to go to RMA through Cisco and they will replace it for you under support through your vendor you purchased it off , if its not under support you will have to face the cost of buying/replacing with another one
POST Test is a hardware test perfomred to make sure switch is operating correctly, if its failing that the switch needs to be checked for failed components or replaced , theres not much you can do at user level to fix this

Hi can you please post the full output from the switch console as its booting up and failing , there will be information usually in the output and it may suggest what is wrong , there can be multiple reasons from softwrae to hardwrae that can prevent it booting
is this a new switch or a switch that was up and working that failed
it sounds as if the board may have failed on the switch is it under support

If thats all you got you have limited options left , you cant get into rommon to reset it or add new software or get it to boot say from usb so there is no access to do anything if the mode button isnt working , you need to RMA the switch get it replaced unfortunately

Thank you.
But I have got only the below message, which I already shared.
"Booting...Initializing RAM+++++++@@@@@@@@...+++++++++++++++++++++++++++@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@done.Memory Test Pass! Base ethernet MAC Address: 00:35:1a:70:07:00 Interface GE 0 link down***ERROR: PHY link is down".
Only this message shows.
Not go into rommon or POST.

hi,
happened to me with a 3850 of 24 ports, the device had the same error, so as the last attempt to de-energize completely and then turned it on again, the computer turned on, normally, of course it did not restart, we are expecting to have with a stock device to carry out the process again, but what I wanted to comment on is that if the equipment returned to start correctly. I left here the error that threw me when I started.

Judging from this, I'd say the flash memory is either dislodged or faulty. Get the appliance RMA-ed.

Hii, for some users have the same problem, in my case are cisco 3850, the solution (maybe for you) is open the switch and see if button mode are stuck, in my case solder new button and work like a charm.
