3750 Stack version mismatch problem

newfabcom

Hi, I am running a 3750E-48PD switch with firmware 15.2.SE1 UniversalK9 firmware as a master and I want to stack to a 3750G-16TD currently running 12.2(35)SE5 IP-Base. When i try to stack them I get a "booting in mismatch mode" and then it hangs. I understand the versions should match, but there is no UNIVERSAL version for the 3750g-16TD Switch. What can I do to make the stack work?

Thanks for any help.

In theory, IOS versions don't need to match, but the IOS stack version software, embedded within the IOS, does need to match (at least, I recall, the major stack version number).  Normally, the easiest way to accomplish this is to run the same IOS version on all stack members.

I don't know if Cisco documents what stack version is supported by different IOS versions.

The 3750E should have IOS versions that overlap with those offered by the 3750G, although you may need to upgrade the 3750G and/or downgrade the 3750E to get them both on the same version.

BTW, IOS feature sets don't have to match between stack members either, although it's "nice" when they do.

Hi, Thanks for that info. is there any way to check the IOS stack version before or after installation?

Thanks, I downgraded? to version 12 on the 3750E switch now it works. I dont know what the difference is between 12 and 15.

12 and 15 are two different major software version hence it wont work if you are running one switch with 12 and other switch in 15.

But what joseph is refereing is if you are running sofware wit different 12 series software it works what I mean is Main version will be 12.X (and sub version can be 12.2(X), 12.2(XX)..etc..)
