3750 StackWise

I need to integrate a SW3750 X to my Lan core I mean I have five Switches 3750 work with StackWise, but the new has IOS version 12.2(58)SE2
and the others have the version Version 12.2(35)SE5.
do you think if the new get the configuration automatically or I need to do something

There are some auto-upgrade feature for 3750 stacks, but I usually find it easier to insure all devices have the same IOS version before I combine them.

As to configuration, if the new switch is "new", it will join the stack as a "blank slate", although you can pre-provision it too.  If the switch to be added isn't new, I believe there are rules for "merging" but I generally also insure the switch to be added configuration is erased.  Then I configure its port when it joins the stack (or again, have pre-provisioned its ports; on the existing stack's configuration.)

You can stack 3750 switches as necessary, even if they come up as V-mismatch, you still have access to that switches flash, then you copy the current switch running IOS to the newly added switch, reload the slot NOT the stack, and you should have a new operable switch in the stack without losing any connectivity.

I've done this on multiple occasions, there are those few cases that this doesn't work for some reason, but you can just TFTP the IOS you want from a running 3750 and then xmodem or TFTP it on the new switch before adding it to the stack.

I have done this before, usually I upgrade the incoming switch to the version the others are running, just to eliminate any potential problems, this is because, for instance if the IOS on the incoming switch is new the you might upgrade the other switches inadvertently, if that happens you will have an outage as these switches in a stack takes almost 30 minutes to upgrade and come back up.

Hi Guys.
I have a new problema I was trying to install the IOS version 12.2(58)SE2 on the new Switch using the procedure, after reboot the Switch could not open the file, it is sending a messages "the hardware doesn't support this software" or something like that.
I mean now I need at least recovery the IOS of the new Switch (3750x-12s-s) using Xmodem or rommon

somebody have the procedure to do that?

you should be installing the same version that is running in your existing stack as you stated it is version 12.2(35)SE5, you will have issues if you introduce a newer IOS into your stack, you will end up upgrading the others and causing downtime.

If you did not remove the old image you should be able to boot to it using the
boot flash:"imagename" command, if that does not work then you will have to use xmodem to transfer the image which takes a while.

The version 12.2(35)SE5  is not supported  from the new switch (3750x) I could do recovery the IOS  using Xmodem now I have the version c3750e-ipbasek9-mz.150-2.SE8.

I dont know if that version will can work with my current Stack.

that's a completely different IOS than what you stated the current stack has running. you installed a 15.0 version IOS instead of the 12.2 version IOS.

Try to TFTP the current IOS on the stack to your laptop/computer and then xmodem or tftp it to the new switch to be added.

EDIT*** Are your other 3750 switches also X series??? could be an incompatibility issue between the switches. You need to either have compatible switches or find a compatible IOS that can span across the different style switches.

No, the other switches are WS-C3750G-12S-S (this five switches are the LAN Core)
and I did that, I get the IOS from the current Stack via TFT, and then loaded to the new switch but the serie X does not support the version of the current Stack for that reason I had to recovery the Switch serie X using Xmodem.
So you think this two switches are not compatible?

Those switches are not compatible with that IOS, I believe you can put the IOS version 15.0(1)SE on the 3750G switches according to the following document, but that would end up causing downtime by bringing your core stack down. Is there a specific need to adding more ports to make a larger core?

You could open a Cisco TAC case to further verify if this is a correct IOS that would be compatible, and/or what they would recommend.

Hi Guys

I could solution it, I opened a case with the TAC and the engineer send me the links to download the IOS version for each Switch 3750G (c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE10) and 3750X(c3750e-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE10).

After the upgrade those switch could do the Stack.

this is something I picked up online

Here is a doc with caveat to all of this… and we have the 12S and so buying an X won't work. 

* The 3750-X Fiber switches (WS-C3750X-12S and WS-C3750X-24S) don't stack with the old WS-C3750G-12S switches due to 
HW and SW limitations on the WS-C3750G-12S.
