I have a stack of 3, with 2 as the Master.
I'm required to take out the current master.
My goal is to renumber/prioritize the switch stack and schedule it to reload overnight prior to hardware removal, to prevent the switch from reloading when I physically remove the old master during business hours.
1>1
2m>out
3>2m
My question is if the priority is set on the (1)general switch stack#, (2)current switch in stack #, or (3)future switch in stack#?
i.e. do I do...
(1)
switch 2 priority 15
switch 3 priority 1
switch 2 renumber 3
switch 3 renumber 2
(2)
switch 2 priority 1
switch 3 priority 15
switch 2 renumber 3
switch 3 renumber 2
(3)
switch 2 renumber 3
switch 3 renumber 2
switch 2 priority 1
switch 3 priority 15

Than this should do it. Hopefully, all can be accomplished with one reboot. I would have a long enough maintenance window for a second reboot just in case.
switch 2 priority 1
switch 3 priority 15
switch 2 renumber 3
switch 3 renumber 2

Can you post the output of "sh switch"?

I would give switch-1 the highest priority (15), switch-2 (current master 6 and keep switch 3 the same (3).
After reboot, switch-1 will be the master, once you replace switch-2 give it 6 again and than switch 3 still stays the same.Basically the numbers stay the same after the reboot and after the switch replacement..
sw-1 15 master
sw-2 6 member
sw-3 3 member

It is for a switch removal. No replacement. I do not want to elect 1 as the master, as I need to retain the master on switch 2 in the stack, and I am trying to prevent the need of a 2nd reboot.

Thank you very much.
Worked great.
Needed a secondary reboot anyways, as 1 of the stacking cables was showing down down after swapping, but that was done after hours.
