I have 2 x 3845 router/switches that I have OSPF running on.
I want to be able to have layer3 and layer2 (since I have dual card hosts) in an Active/Standby HA. I setup HSRP but it does not provide L2 redundancy.
Ideally I would like it to operate like ESRP in Extreme switches; where if any port on the L2 or any L3 loses a link then the entire switch fails over to the standby.
Can someone provide me a sample config?
Also should I trunk the 2 switches?
Thanks

hi
the layer 3 redundancy can be achieved by the use of HSRP,VRRP,GLBP .
the layer 2 redundancy can be achieved only by STP.
yes u can do configure a trunk between your device the port serving for the connection must be a switched mode not a routed ones, use switchport command for that purpose.
HTH
do rate if so

Thanks for the reply.
There is no other mechanism in Cisco to do this?
Also do you have a sample config?
I would like it to be an active/standby not active/active.
Also how do I link the L2 ports to the HSRP? Basically if I lose a link on port 1 on switch one I would like everything (including HSRP) to fail over to the other switch.
