Does the 3850 model do 10gig copper?

If so, what is the full model number?

You are right. You need two extra parts. You need to buy a NM module and a SFP separately.   NM module goes into one of 3850 slots and SFP goes inside NM module. Then you will able to plug your copper cable.

WS-C3850-24XS        supports  NM: C3850-NM-4-10G

You need to get a proper NM for the switch and a 10G copper SFP

Switch plus a NM module plus SFP

when you see X in the model number, it supports 10G

Hope it helps,

If I understand correctly, it is not that you simply plug a cat 6 cable into an ether port that is 10g on the switch but you must insert the 10g copper sfp's into the port?
