Hi,

We are setting up a small office with 200 users. we are planning to use 4510 series as the LAN switches and connect to a distribution switch. We need to decide which distribution switch will be suitable for the design to serve the purpose. We are planning to have a non modular switch as distribution switch (3850). Can someone tell me if anybody used 3850 as the distribution in any of the remote sites so far? If so, Please tell us the advantages or limitations or challenges we might have using 3850 model in LAN distribution?

Regards,

Praneeth

The 3850 might not have sufficient port buffering if it becomes really busy.  Cannot say for sure if that would be a problem with the 3850, but often was with the 3560/3750.

If you have 4510s for edge switches, you might also consider the 4500-X or the recent 6840-X.

PS:

200 users and 4510s - how many 4510s?  I.e. unclear you really need a distribution switch.

Hi,

We are using cisco 3850-24S & C3850-24XS at Distribution level. Our requirement was for fiber & capable switch. This switch has all fiber uplink 1G, 10G & 40G as per module. Also have dual power supply.

You can check below datasheet for more details,
