3850 error message "%DATACORRUPTION-1-DATAINCONSISTENCY: strncpy_s:"

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone has seen this error message on 3850 model switches:
%DATACORRUPTION-1-DATAINCONSISTENCY: strncpy_s: not enough space for src,  -PC= :54D15000+5363D0C
-Traceback= 1#ecf76fc601e9eba5a3bff6c58fd16c99  :54D15000+281A484 :54D15000+284D10C :54D15000+5363D0C :54D15000+F4A434 :54D15000+F4724C :54D15000+4735FEC

The message only pops while the switch is rebooting. These are brand new switches from the box with only default configuration.
The version they are running is 03.07.03E and the next one up is the 16 train which I am thinking of upgrading to.
Thanks for the help in advance!!
Regards,
Mohit

You could try upgrade if that does  not fix it I would open a case with Cisco , it looks like that error can exist in multiple platforms and there seems to be several bug ids but no actual workaround or fix in any of them

Message Details

With the new enhancement in place, Cisco IOS emits the %DATACORRUPTION-1-DATAINCONSISTENCY error message whenever it detects an inconsistency in its internal data structures. This is a new error message. Here is an example:

The %DATACORRUPTION-1-DATAINCONSISTENCY error message is preceded by a timestamp.

A traceback appears after the error message.

It is important to note that this error message does not imply that packet data is corrupted. However, it does provide an early indicator of other conditions that can eventually lead to poor system performance or a Cisco IOS restart.

Recommended Action

Collect show tech-support command output and open a service request with Cisco Technical Support Center (TAC), or contact your designated support organization. Pay particular attention to any other error messages or error symptoms that accompany the %DATACORRUPTION-1-DATAINCONSISTENCY message, and report them to your support contact.

Hi all,

I fixed the issue finally.

I did not like to upgrade to next version as it was on 16 train and that would have meant that I would need to upgrade my WLC and prime for compatibility reasons.

Instead I started looking at downgrading options, the version just next level below 3.7.2 was not recommended by Cisco as it had few bugs reported, so I finally went with 3.7.1 as it did not any warning against it.

And ever since then, the error message has gone away.

We purchased a quite a lot of 3850's and some of them came with 3.7.3E and some of them with 3.7.4E. The ones with 3.7.3E displayed the above error messages at the time of boot and not the ones with 3.7.4E. I upgraded them to the latest version and the error message didn't occur since then.
