So all the data sheets that I can find for 3850s state the stack limit is 4 switches. However release notes IOS XE Release 3.3.0SE state up to 9 switches can be added to a stack. Does anyone know if that's limited to a port count, or can you truly have nine 48-port switches stacked together?

The four unit stack limit was per original/early IOS releases for the switch. Cisco promised it would eventually be a nine unit stack limit, and that has been accomplished with the current/later IOS releases.
