Hi,

We have 2 3850(WS-C3850-48T)  switch series, basicaly i have same exact IOS in both the switches.

Now i want to know how to make the switch as master & member role, instead of Active & standby role.

Please let us know how to configure the same with cli commands.

in05#sh sw
in05#sh switch
Switch/Stack Mac Address : 086c.9d22.8480 - Local Mac Address
Mac persistency wait time: Indefinite
H/W Current
Switch# Role Mac Address Priority Version State
------------------------------------------------------------
*1 Active 046c.9d22.8980 15 V05 Ready
2 Standby 9c57.ad32.1400 15 V05 Ready

Thanks in advance ....

Regards,

Maghesh

Hi Maghesh,

You can change and hard core the switch role by chnaging the priority , as below.

switch 1 priority 15

switch 2 priority 10

Thanks

Hello,

I have already tried to change the priority and reload the switch, but the switch role exists as Active/Standby.

What i understand by Active/Standby role:

"All stack members are eligible to be the active switch or the standby switch. If the active switch becomes unavailable, the standby switch becomes the active switch."

in05#sh switch
Switch/Stack Mac Address : 086c.9d22.8480 - Local Mac Address
Mac persistency wait time: Indefinite
H/W Current
Switch# Role Mac Address Priority Version State
------------------------------------------------------------
*1 Active 046c.9d22.8980 15 V05 Ready
2 Standby 9c57.ad32.1400 10 V05 Ready

Thanks

Maghesh

Hello,

It is just different terminology used in 3850 IOS.

3850 switches have different states in stack. Active, standby and member. If you add one or more switches to the stack, you will see "member" by command "show switch".

The output of command is highlighting which switch is going to be active after failure of active switch. On other series of switches, you need to check priority to see the next active switch.

Please check the link below. Take look at the pictures at the end of the page.

Hope it helps,

Hi Maghesh,

The issue here seems to be SSO. These 2 switches are acting in redundancy, if a 3rd or a 4th switches ares added they will become a members of this stack but by default in a stack of 2 or more switches they will act as active and standby.

You can get more information with the command "show redundancy".

Hope this helps.
