The only place I can find it documented is in the release notes.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/release/note/OL_32143-01.html

Search for "Easy VSS".  It takes you to a table showing what is available in "Lan base", "IP Base" and "Enterprise Services".

If i understand correct  - Just to make note,

If this is new Setup - why not move to New Catalyst which has longtivity.

The steps if you already have VSS configured. If you building VSS you can apply the License and join to VSS.

I believe "Easy VSS" is supported in IP Base, and full blown VSS in "Enterprise Services".

Dear

Can you refer me to the document mentioning  that for easy vss ip base is enough and for full fledged VSS we need an enterprise License.

@balaji

it is an existing switch, in which we are replacing the sup6le

The only place I can find it documented is in the release notes.

Actually that table shows VSS itself is also in IP Base.

Dear Philip

Thanks for the reply,

the release note are of Sep 2018, and after that there are no latest, all it is mentioned about SUP8E and no where for SUP9E so i hope all information mentioned for SUP8E also reflect to SUP9E,

so the conclusion is IP BASE is enough to configure Full VSS  features in switch.

thanks

You should be fine with IP Base. Both VSS and easy VSS are the same thing:

Beginning with Cisco IOS XE 3.6.0E (IOS 15.2(2)E), the Catalyst 4500 series switch supports Easy VSS, which enables you to configure VSS with a single command on the active switch and no action on the VSS standby switch.

HTH

In that case suggest to use Enterprise Services IOS, so you have also run some OSPF, if this acting as CORE.

SUP9E supports VSS starting IOS XE 3.10.0 with minimum requirement of IP base License. Will get that added on the data sheet. SUP8E provides 8x10G ports with 80G of uplinks bandwidth where as SUP9E provides 4x10G and 2X40G uplinks with 80G of uplink bandwidth. The uplink ports on SUP9E can be mixed and match according to the preference.
