4500-x Hardware GRE experiences

HW GRE support for the 4500-x was added in IOS-XE 3.07.

The release notes are pretty sparse.

Does anyone have first hand experience using this feature on the 4500-x or Sup7 ?

Interested in performance/throughput  characteristics, capacities,   idiosyncrasies / gotchas.

Cheers

Hello Wes,

I was hoping you implemented some GRE-in-hardware on the 4500-x and are now able to answer your own question.  If not, maybe this will catch the eye of someone who has done so.

Thanks!

We did implement 4500x GRE but had to back it out.
There were switching bugs that punted most of the GRE traffic to the RP CPU.
Performance was terrible.

It's not a viable solution as of Dec 2015  IOS-XE 3.07.01.

Might be fixed now, I don't recall the bug ID and I have not been tracking it.

We were able to re-engineer and use QinQ for our tunneled traffic, but that's not an option if you have to transit a L3 network.
