4507RE - Input Error & CRC

Hi,

we recently started to have a problem in on of the department (DeptB) which has 3x3750E stacked switches with X2-LRM (10G) module on port TG3/0/1 .

this connects to the data center's core switch 4507RE's X2-LRM module on port TG2/3.

on checking ping from core to the deptB stack is very bad on default ping size as well as on max ping size, the same test for deptA is successful even with max size of 18024bytes...

DC_Core#ping 172.16.0.3 size 18024 repeat 1000

Type escape sequence to abort.

Sending 1000, 18024-byte ICMP Echos to 172.16.0.3, timeout is 2 seconds:

.!....!!!........!.....!.....!!......!..!........!.........!..........

Success rate is 17 percent (12/70), round-trip min/avg/max = 8/9/12 ms

[DATA CEN   -----------------------(10G Fiber)--------------------[DEPT B - 3x3750Estack]

TER 4507RE] -----------------------10G Fiber)--------------------[DEPT A - 3x3750Estack]

i can see Input Error and CRC error on the interface of the 4507 switch's port 2/3 which connects to the DeptB stack of 3750E ,

where as the DeptB 3750E switches does not have any error on it.

DC_Core#

is this a fiber cable or X2 module problem at the core switch side ???

My guess is that it is a fiber problem, though it is possible that it is a problem on the card. Do you have another port available on the 4507 where you might (temporarily as a test) move the connection. If the problem moves to the new port then it points to a fiber problem and if the problem stays on the old port then it points to a problem with the card.

hi Rick,

i was testing the same..

on the core switch side i swapped fiber patch cords between Dept A & B's modules..

means  pactch cord 1 initially on module 2/2  for Dept A  is now on module 2/3

and patch cord 2 initially on module 2/3 for Dept B is now on module 2/2

the problem from core to the same Dept B stack  172.16.0.3 remains the same..

i can see the crc errors on module 2/2 now..

so this means that both X2-LRm modules are OK at the data center side.

could it be that the X2-LRM on the Dept B stack is going faulty ?

i will also replace the fiber patch cord..

from the data center side i swapped the modules and the patch cords one by one..

the module and patch cord working on dept A are now on Dept B's place but the error remains the same..

this means that its gotta be from the 3750's side..  either the fiber or the module..

is there no way to test this from the switch it self ? like check the health state of the module ? so we can narrow it down to just the patch cord there.
