6500 or 4300 Switch, patch panel wire management

Does anyone have any source of pictures that could give some ideas on an organized and neat way to manage the wiring on racks with high port density switches and patch panels?

We will be moving our DR site to a different location and it would be a good opportunity to organize and clean up the mess we currently have.

The problem is that the 6509s, loaded with numerous 48 port blades, makes for a large clump of wires in track on either side of the switch to the patch panel.

Tracing and troubleshooting is a hassle and makes the mess even bigger when the cables are pulled to trace them.

Does anyone have an example of what their wiring closet or racks look like for some ideas on clean wire management?

Hi,

Make sure in the new location your racks have the vertical cable organizers as these make life a lot easier.  Within the organizer use tie cables to keep them nice and clean.  If you can, have them install overhead trays to run your cables between your tack and rows.

Also, if possible and if you have enough room in your switches and for easier access use one blade then miss one and then another blade (1,3, 5,...).

Also, to keep things cleaner have them install a patch panel per rack.

One more thing, don't forget to label.

For high density like that you have to go with a BIX patch panel and wire every port on your switch.

This way you wire and label it ounce and never have to touch it again.  You mannage you connections from the bix panel instead.
