6509 Sup1 and Sup2

I am in the process of upgrading Sup's on my 6509 core. I have 2 questions regarding this.

1. With the switch running a Sup1 mod in slot2 can I install a Sup2 mod in slot 1 and automatically revert to the newer blade without rebooting?

2. Will the switch continue to pass traffic if I remove all Sup mods from the unit while it is running? I think it is no but I have been debating this with someone.

hello,

1. this is not possible. both the supervisors must be the same and must have the same pfc/msfc modules in it... you can confirm this from the following document:

http://cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_white_paper09186a0080088874.shtml

See in the "supervisor engine switchover" section...

2. I dont think the switch will work without the sup mods... once the both the sups are removed, the switch will stop functioning...

hope this helps.. all the best. rate replies if found useful..
