886VA IOS Update

Hi guys,

I have a problem concerning the CISCO 886VA Integrated Services Router ... I`d like to upgrade the current IOS version to a newer release. Right now there is IOS 15.3(3)M6 running and the CD LED is only flashing ... so I reckon i need to upgrade the IOS Firmware first. I checked CISCO.com for newer releases and downloaded the one i think which should be suitable.

(c880data-universalk9-mz.154-3.M5.bin)

dir

c800-universalk9-mz.SPA.153-3.M6.bin

What does SPA stands for?

copy ftp flash:

x.x.x.x

c880data-universalk9-mz.154-3.M5.bin

Warning: File not a valid executable for this system

conf t

 boot system flash:c880data-universalk9-mz.154-3.M5.bin

If I ignore the message, copy and reboot the router ... it say`s "can´t load flash image" or something like that and starts up using the older image c800-universalk9-mz.SPA.153-3.M6.bin ...

Could someone please tell me what i`m doing wrong or what i`m missing ... thanks!

Hi there,

You've downloaded the firmware for similarly named 886VA ! :) Search for C886VA and you'll get the right image:

ffs ... we all forget about this post and carry on. Thank u so much mate, have a good one!

In addition to Seb's post, this is what SPA stands for:

S (first character)
Stands for digitally signed software.
P or S (second character)
P and S stand for a production and special (development) image, respectively. A production image is Cisco software approved for general release; a special image is development software provided under special conditions for limited use.
A (third character)
Indicates the key version used to digitally sign the image. A key version is identified by an alphabetical character - for example, A,B,C...

Check the link below for reference:

Also, I think the image you have downloaded is for the 881W. The link Seb posted will redirect you to the correct image.
