9200L-48T-4X + 10Gbe Copper SFP?

Cisco_

Hi all,

I know this may be a long shot, but has anyone tried using the 10G-T-X (Copper) module in the 9200L series switch? (Currently not listed on the supported SFP list)

We have a need for a short copper run and our desire would be to nix the need of a media converter.

Any input helps!

Thanks!

Not me  - someone tried i know in the circle with 3rd party 10G SFP - it did not work, then they move to Fibre 10G -SR to fix the issue.

Hi @balaji.bandi

Do you mean someone you know tried a 3rd party 10Gb copper SFP and it did not work?

Thanks for the reply.

As you noted, the 9200 series switches do not support SFP-10G-T-S (copper). I know this works well on Nexus switches?

yes, i mean copper 10GB in line with the context.  ( also when you use 3rd party TAC will not support 3rd party, if this is critical services you hosting)

The answer is a yes and no.  Let me explain:

  1. Cisco released the SFP-10G-T-X back in December 2020, however, firmware support was aimed predominantly on the Nexus family of switches.  No word yet if SFP-10G-T-X will be supported on Catalyst switches.
  2. However, some 3rd party SFP-10G-T-X "compatible" optics can operate on Catalyst switches.

NOTE:  Some people have been using/operating 3rd party SFP-10G-T since 2019.
NOTE:  Before embarking on the 3rd party option, make sure to have it in writing that the 3rd party vendor will "re-flash" the optics to "Cisco".

Hi again all and thanks for the replies.

FWIW, I don't plan on using 3rd party transceivers, I was just curious if someone had tried the 10G-T-X in the C9200 series switches.

I was hoping to get "lucky" and have someone chime in and say "it works great for us", HA! Wishful thinking I suppose.

The SFP itself is rather inexpensive (Cisco Genuine) and would be nice if we had the option for a short copper 10Gb run.

The caveat is the end devices are 10Gb copper and we are tying to find a solution that does not involve media converters.

We don't plan on swapping out our 9200Ls.

Thanks again for all the input.

Personally its not harm trying, if you allowed in your environment with the Low cost SFP. (but matrix it self not supported) - this will become hit and run, if it work you are winner, if not you learned lessons that it not working. (that means you know now, No means No)
