A faster way of recovering from a missing image on a 3560

Hello All,

I have a c3560G-24PS switch, and I reset the device before uploading the latest image on it. I was wondering if there is a faster way of uploading the image compared to the XModem upload.

I know in routers you are able to enter Rom mon mode and set ip address and speed and upload images a lot quicker.

I am currently at the "switch: " prompt.

Thanks.

Do you mean load an new IOS when you don't have one in flash and the switch is in ROMMON mode ?

If so i'm afraid it's xmodem because the 3750 switches do not support tftpdnld. However you can speed the whole process up by setting the correct speed.

At the ROMMON prompt -

set BAUD 115200

then set your hyperterminal or whatever you use to the same speed ie. 115200.

Once finished reset the BAUD back to 9600 on the switch ie.

unset BAUD

Doing this will make a considerable difference in transfer time.

Hey Jon,

Thanks for the note. Unfortunately, this IS the scenario. I deleted the old IOS, forgot to put the new one on, reloaded the switch and cringed as soon as I pressed enter to confirm. So yea, I guess I'll go have dinner and let it do its thing.

Thanks regardless.

At 115200 it shouldn't take too long , I did a 2950 this way and it took maybe 7 minutes to do an image for . Maybe 20 minutes for a 3560 at that speed . Its a lot faster than 9600.

Another suggestion: if your client supports it, use xmodem1k.
