Hi, I have 2 3850 switch with separate configuration. Please help with the steps in sequence for stacking. Can I do it when one is up and running and without downtime?

Hi,

Converting from stand alone switches to stack requires downtime, as it requires reboot and also config changes to you ports. Before you do anything, make a good backup of your current configs. The first step before stacking is to make sure you have the same exact IOS installed on both switches.  The next step is to make sure you are running the same license on both switches. After these steps, you need to decided what switch you want to be the master and what switch the member. The master switch should have a higher priority (1-15).  The member switch can be any number below 15 or default (1).

Here are a couple document for reference:

Thanks !!!

In my scenario, I was having the same 2 switches already in the stack. I removed from the stack, as I wanted to use it for new office premise.

and Now, Switch1 in the old office is having higher priority and Switch 2, which i have connected at new office, is having lower priority. I am having separate set of vlan and configs in 2 switches.

Now I want to add the switch 1 with online switch-switch2. Please help me with below questions.

1.Does this require downtime?

2.Will the configs in the switches will be combined?

3. I believe, we need to add the "provision" command, then only, the new switch will be added to stack. please clarify.

Thanks
