Adding a new 3750 to stack

Hello to everybody!

I had 2 3750 stacked and one of them decided to die (power supply) cisco replaced it and now i want to re-add that switch to stack.

I have already upgraded my replacement switch to the same IOS version.

I was reading that i can do it without powering down operational 3750 so the action plan so far is:

power down NEW member

connect stacking cable

power up

i have already provisioned "slot" for it:

output from sh run

switch 1 provision ws-c3750g-24ts-1u

switch 2 provision ws-c3750g-24ts-1u

so i guess it should be working.

My questions are:

1. output from sh switch

1       Member 0000.0000.0000     0      0       Provisioned

*2       Master 001c.b134.4980     1      0       Ready

as you can see my switch 2 is now a master and it still holds config of all Gi ports for switch 1. If i connect my NEW switch without any config (vlan.dat and startup-config) will my existing switch 2 copy all ports config to new switch ?

Hope i didnt confused my questions ....

Thanks

Marcin

Hi,

If the switch is the same part number and if you manually assigned the replacement switch with the same member number as the failed switch, than it will automatically load the confguration from master. This guide could be helpful:

HI Ivan,

...so starting with the empty config and applying command

switch(config)# switch 1 renumber 1

and saving config should do it ?

Thanks

Marcin

Hi Marcin,

Since you are adding it as a slave, don't forget to also do the following:

1. configure "switch 1 priority 1" to ensure it acts as slave.

2. power it down before adding to stack with master.

Here are some guidelines:

You need to reload the switch to apply the "renumber".
