Good morning,
I have 2 4506 catalyst switches that require an ios upgrade remotely. One is a supervisor IV and the other is a supervisor V. I have the new ios image set in bootvar on both, but I am unable to set the back up config file from bootflash to bootvar. The command boot CONFIG does not exist on these switches when I use the "?" command. Is there an alternative command to use rather that boot config?

Hi,
The only thing you need is to load the new IOS into the flash, set the bootvar, save the config and reboot. There is no need for any host command config that I know unless I am missing something.

Thanks for the quick reply. I meant to type boot CONFIG instead of host. I have changed my question.

There is "boot system" which you use to set the bootvar, (boot system flash bootflash:ios name) but I am not aware of any "boot config". The config is in NVRAM, but you are not changing that. The only thing you are changing is the IOS and that is on flash or bootflash.

Yes I have the IOS set using boot system. Now I need to set the config_file variable using the back up config file I have sitting in bootflash. My other 4506, 4506-e, and 4507 catalyst switches have the boot config command, but for some reason, these 2 do not. Perhaps the IOS installed on them are that old.

Ok, I see that the boot config command is also available on 4500 with sup-8, but perhaps you are correct and the IOS on that device is very old.
The other option maybe to load the IOS first, reboot the switch and if the new IOS has the bootconfig command than you can try that..

Yeah I may have to do that. Thank you.
