Looking at a Wireshark trace from a connection to an SF250-24P switch and noticed that quite often the switch would broadcast an ARP request from itself to all IP addresses in a particular subnet (in the case of the attached screenshot 1-253 i.e. 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.253). There are a number of VLANs configured on the switch, and the switch itself is doing VLAN routing. So, the 'Tell 192.168.4.254' address is the gateway for a particular VLAN. It also does it for network gateways 192.168.0.254, 192.168.1.254, 192.168.2.254, 192.168.3.254, and 192.168.16.254 (all VLANs on the switch).
The time between each request is somewhere in the region of 1mS, and the Wireshark trace was scattered with instances of this.
I've since upgraded the firmware in the switch to the latest version (2.5.5.47) and the problem seems to have gone away. Could there have been a bug in the firmware, or is there a setting that could of caused this? I haven't changed any settings since upgrading.
Thanks in advance.
