Bandwidth failure

Greetings to all, yesterday I was doing a test on 2 cisco 2950 and 3750 switches and I got some worrying results ... when I transfer data from one PC to another the maximum bandwidth achieved is 11 mbps, it is important indicate that the switches have nothing configured and only these two machines are connected to the switch .. both with the same behavior .. however I place another desktop switch of another brand and lower performance and the bandwidth becomes up to 120 mbps .

 

My question is whether IOS versions may be creating this bottleneck on packages sent and received. this may be affecting performance and data traffic on the network

Hi Paul,

 

Just to clarify, are both PC's connected to the same switch, or do you have an uplink between the C2950 and C3750?

 

If the PC's are connected to the same switch, do you observe the same behaviour?

 

 

I did the tests on both switches separately to rule out the fault, it turned out that both behave the same. even if I make the connection between both switches the transmission performance is very poor

Please could you provide a show interface for the interfaces which the PC's are connected to?

I performed the tests with the initial configuration of the switches .. and additionally with some modifications to the ports and the results were those mentioned above

Thanks for the information, however please could you provide the "show interface" output for the two interfaces connecting to the PC's.

My assumption at this stage is that you are experiencing a duplex issue, which could be causing the poor performance you have observed. To validate this assumption, I would need to see the output of "show interface" for both interfaces.

I can see that some of the interfaces are experiencing output drops. Can you confirm the following;

 

1. Which interfaces do PC’s A and B connect to on the C3750?

 

2. Do both PC’s reside in the same VLAN?

 

3. What are the associated IP addresses and subnet of both PC’s?

 

I would suggest that you remove the speed and duplex statement from the interfaces connecting to the PC’s and allow this to be auto negotiated. If you want to statically assign this, ensure you do so on both sides (switch and PC).

 

If the PC’s are in different VLAN’s, please can you highlight the diagram you provided, with this information, and which device holds the L3 interfaces for the associated VLAN’s.

192.168.0.x / 24

 

I would suggest that you remove the speed and duplex statement from the interfaces connecting to the PC’s and allow this to be auto negotiated. If you want to statically assign this, ensure you do so on both sides (switch and PC).

 

The ports are forced tu full duplex like the PC

 

If the PC’s are in different VLAN’s, please can you highlight the diagram you provided, with this information, and which device holds the L3 interfaces for the associated VLAN’s.
