Best Configuration having 2 active routers

Goodmorning,

in this scenario of covid-2019, my ISP turned the two routers from "active-standby" to "active-active". I don't know which protocol they've used (maybe active-active-VRRP).

When the two routers were in "active-standby", I used to have two Cisco 2960-X for a backup purpose.

Assuming that, I don't know if 2960-X can support VSS (Virtual Switching System) and my ISP give me only one Gigabit Port for each router, what is the best configuration is this network setting ?

looking forward to hearing from you,

Thank you.

Hi,

The 2960x series switches don't support VSS, the only support stacking. If the switches are not stacked, you can however use HSRP and keep one 2960x as active and the other one on standby for your outbound traffic.

Hi and thank you for the fast reply.
Isn't the HSRP for router devices? I mean, can I use HSRP while using the 2960-X as a Layer 2 device? If so, I didn't find anything about such configuration. Any CLI commands help will be very usefull ;)
Thank you

Hi,

Assuming you are peering your 2960x switches with the provider's routers using layer-3 links (possibly /30s) you can setup a HSRP for traffic leaving your network. Can you provide more info on how this network is setup with the providers?

Are you peering layer-3 with /30 subnets? if yes, are you using static routes?  Can you post the configs?

Hey.
Using the switches for layer 2. Firewalls and some Workstation (with the need to be outside firewall) have the IP of the subnet.
The static routes are configurated in the firewalls.

Not sure what device in the picture is the firewall but if it is the device below the 2960s, than that is the layer-3 device and therefore no need for HSRP.
