Hey Cisco Community
So i just received some new C2960CX-8pc-l, and was just checking out the box before prepping them for implmentation.
Odd thing is, i can't write to the switch via serial console, the console nicely shows all parts of the post, up until i reach the intial configuration dialog.
Then its like it no longer receives the data?

Hi
sounds like your settings are right as your recieving some information as the switch boots
Are you using the standard 9600 cisco settings for console ?
Does this happen if you console into any other switches or just this new 1 ?
Have you tried a different terminal emulator in case theres a software conflict , putty , hyperT etc ?
Have you tried a different pc to rule out hardware ?

Only happens with this new model, after i posted i tested out two other and noticed the same issue.
Standard cisco serial settins, baud 9600 and so on. The serial interface works perfectly when used on our other switched like Cisco 2960x and 2960cg.
Tried with Putty, SecureCRT, RoyalTS and Hyper just to be sure.
Tried several PC's and USB to serial converters.
I dont think its a settings that loads and locks me out.
As ive noticed if take a standard copper cable and plug in into a giga port, the console will stil write link up and down and such to the console, it just doesn't take input all of a sudden.

It sounds like you have covered everything the next thing i would check is the software version release guide for any known caveat bugs for console ports or terminal session failures are these switches on the same ios code ? , failing that i would check with TAC as theres not many options left could be hardware related but its hard to think it would be effecting multiple models you have

ye that was also my next step :)
Just to update.
I dug out a old XP machine, and tried with use console (win8.1 and cisco usb console is so bugged) and i got access, yet i haven't been able to locate any issues with it. Trying to revert it to a older software release as i wasn't able to locate any known caveats on that model relating to console :(

So it works on xp but not 8.1 , from my dealings with win8 alot of things do not work correctly with it related to Cisco , anyconnect, jabber we had issues with on that software had to revert back to 7 a lot of it is just not supported by Cisco themselves i would have thought console would have been a given though , that may be your issue there alright at least you got it going :)

Hehe i think ill refrase myself a little bit for clarification :)
It doesn't work when i use the rj45 console port on the switch, it works if i use the USB mini console port :)

I would still get that checked then , i have ran through the release notes there is nothing to indicate there is a console caveat for that specific problem as you stated but that does not mean you have not hit something thats not known yet and especially the fact you can get on through the mini usb indicates problem is on the switch itself , there X series so there covered warranty next day delivery if its hardware if its a bug you may have to wait for DE team to fix if the problem exists in the very few ios releases for this version , from experience we waited 3 months for a fix to be written into the next available release when we hit an unknown software bug , quite long :)
