C6880-X-LE Crashes randomly

Hi All,

We have 2 C6880-X-LE configured in VSS and several fexes attached. We have experienced 3 times a crash of one of the C6880-X-LE chassis (both have crashed at least 1 time). During the crash only the single connected devices are impacted.

The only way to restore the chassis is to reboot it. Before the reboot, the chassis is not accessible anymore through telnet or SSH. The led on the management interface is also amber.

Last time we logged on with the console and the system was in rommon. We are running version 15.1(2)SY2.

Has anyone experienced this before. We have created a tac case at Cisco, but it seems they are also in the dark.

Hi Joris,
Check out the following bug CSCup99867 regarding the VSL timeout.  See if you are dropping VSL_LMP timeouts:

%VSLP-SW1-3-VSLP_LMP_FAIL_REASON: Te1/5/16: Timeout
(60000msec) waiting for Hello packet from peer 

If so then you are experiencing the bug indicated above.  Only resolutions available is to upgrade to SY4 or to modify the LMP as indicated in the bug details.
