C6905-E support for VSS with WS-SUP720-3B - IOS 12.2(18)

Hi,

I have two C6509-E chassis. Their sup and IOS version are as follows :

WS-SUP720-3B - IOS 12.2(18)

I wish to implement VSS but this sup doesn't support it. Can you tell me what is the sup module I can buy to have VSS with that switch and IOS version? The SUP just needs to support VSS comparing to the current, I mean I don't really need an extension for other characteristics if it's possible.

Do I compulsory need to upgrade the IOS ?

Is this sup one I can have ? VS-S720-10G-3C

Thanks for help,

Yes needed the SXF bit , so that software is eol don't use it on the new sup , you want to use SXI as per doc below

Thanks,

There is other sups I use 2ts vss --VS-SUP2T-10G

Your going to need to put an ios version on it anyway either way as its new so you should think about upgrading anyway to a newer release while you have the chance

you haven't given the full ios code so I cant see if its on that 10g sup too , heres the guide of supported ios versions for 10gb sup720s

https://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=281569550&flowid=3321&softwareid=280805680&release=15.1.2-SY9&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=MD&reltype=latest

can you post the full ios name from flash please

You mean this : Version 12.2(18)SXF10a, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1) ?

Yes needed the SXF bit , so that software is eol don't use it on the new sup , you want to use SXI as per doc below
