C9300-48P IOS upgrade on service stacked switches

I have five C9300-48P switches connected in stack and in service.

I want to upgrade the IOS from version 16.6.5 to the recommended version, which is 17.9.5

I have always done it with "offline" switches, but never with switches in service.

Can I upgrade directly from version 16.6.5 to 17.9.5 or do I have to install an intermediate version beforehand?

I would appreciate if you could help me with the steps to follow.

These are the commands I used when I upgraded:

install remove inactive

I copy the .bin file from USB to the switch flash

verify /md5 flash:cat9k_iosxe.17.09.05.SPA.bin

install add file flash:cat9k_iosxe.17.09.05.SPA.bin activate commit

Is this procedure correct? Are there any steps missing?

Thanks in advance.

You can go directly from 6.6.5 to 17.9.5.

Also, have a look at this link for upgrade procedures.

This command is dependent to the answer of the question:  WHEN do you want to reload the switch/stack?

If you want to reload the stack immediately then use the same command.

However, if the stack you want/wish to reload the stack at a later time/date, then read this workaround:  Cisco 3850: IOS-XE/Firmware Upgrade
