C9500-16X-2Q-A Switch Details

Hi,

we are planning to purchase cisco 9500 (C9500-16X-2Q-A: Catalyst 9500 16-port 10G, 2-port 40G switch) as a core switch (2 qty) and cisco 9300 (C9300-48P-E: Catalyst 9300 48-port PoE+) as a access switch (2 qty).

kindly help me to understand about these switches series.

1. what is the interface type on C9500-16X-2Q-A (is it fixed copper interface or fiber interface, otherwise can we use transceivers based on over requirements, examlpe:- GLC-T= for 1G copper connection for management device, GLC-SX-MM for 1G for fiber interface).

2. how can we configure stacking on C9500-16X-2Q-A (as per my understanding there is no dedicated stack port and stack cable, by using 10G OR 40g interface we can able to configure virtual StackWise)

3. on C9500-16x switch two interface speed ports are available (16*10G & 2*40 G), is it fixed speed interface or can we connect 1G speed device on 10G port (is it auto negotiated and work on 1G?) and 400G port.

expecting your valuable advice.

we need to connect perimeter firewall LAN and DMZ 1Gps interface (RJ45 Copper) on C9500 switch, for that we are looking for GLC-T Compatible 1000BASE-T SFP Copper RJ-45 traceiver.

these GLC-T transceiver is available for the C9500-16X switch.

Go HERE.  It is stated that GLC-T is supported if the switch is running 16.8.1 (and later).

Cisco Catalyst 9500 16-port 10G switch (SFP+), 2 x 40GE Network Module

9500 supports Virtual Stacking (up to 2 units only) when running 16.8.X.  I'd recommend holding out until 16.8.1c is released (September 2018) so it will fix CSCvj73842 & Cisco IOS XE Software Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting Login Authentication Remote Code Execution Vulnerability.

SFP+ & QSFP only (if I recall correctly).  SFP won't be supported.

1. Cisco Catalyst 9500 16-port 10G switch (SFP+), 2 x 40GE Network Module
that means on 10G ports (16 nos) we need to use SFP transceivers (SFP+ & QSFP).
so if we need to connect hp server IRMC port (OOBM interface, 1G Copper interface) to c9500, we need to use SFP RJ45 Transceivers (GLC-T Compatible 1000BASE-T SFP Copper RJ-45). am i correct,
if yes, will switch interface auto negotiated to 1G speed?

Optical modules don't "auto negotiate". There's only one speed setting (and there's only done duplex setting) & nothing else.

ok, then can we use SFP RJ45 Transceivers and manually configure the interface speed as 1000 Mbps.
will it work

If you want a 1 Gbps link, then connect a switch with a 10 Gbps uplink and 1 Gbps downlink.

Hi Leo Laohoo, thanks for your response.

we need to connect perimeter firewall LAN and DMZ 1Gps interface (RJ45 Copper) on C9500 switch, for that we are looking for GLC-T Compatible 1000BASE-T SFP Copper RJ-45 traceiver.

these GLC-T transceiver is available for the C9500-16X switch.

very much appreciate for your technical advice.
