can a GLC-LH-SMD sfp module inserted into a C3850 SFP port operate with a fiber 100mb end device?

I believe this will work by using the slowest devices setting but Im reading misleading information online. The online information mentions SFP to SFP must be the same speed but it never mentions a device connecting via fiber?

I need clarification on this before a bunch of media convertors for 1 connection.

hi,

What sfp/interface  do you have at the other end?

Thanks

John

I have a security system device with a sfp connection.

Hi,

is it an 100FX or 100LX interface on the security device. If so, then it will not work with GLC-LH-SMD. If the other end is a 100LX, then you will need GLC-GE-DR-LX.

Have a look at the following doc:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/interfaces-modules/gigabit-ethernet-gbic-sfp-modules/product_data_sheet0900aecd8033f885.html

Thanks

John

So what I have is a cisco GLC-LH-SM connecting to a device using 100BASE-FX

Hi,

That will not work. You will need a 100FX (GLC-GE-100FX) sfp in your 3850.

Thanks

John
