Hi,

I have two switches available and would like to stack them to provide a secure core.

WS-C3750E-24TD-E

WS-C3750E-24TD-S

  • My question is - If I load the enterprise IOS onto the –S switch, will that enable/turn the -S into a -E.

Thank you

Not anymore.

Post the output to the command "sh license" from both appliance.

No, unlike the original 3560/3750 series, the "E"s (and "-X"s) require a feature license.  You need to have both the correct image and license to upgrade the -S switch.  (NB: You can field upgrade the license, assuming it's still available from Cisco.)

BTW, you can still stack the two units, and as long as the -E is running, the stack will have usage of -E features.  If that switch member dies, though, the stack, now just the single -S, will revert to -S features.

Thank you very much for the replies. I have stacked the units successfully and am currently in the process of obtaining license purchase options.

Thanks again
