Can I use Rapid-PVST and RSTP on the same network

Hi all

 

 

May I have a question 

 

Our network have more than 20 vlan

 

Core switch use Rapid-PVST

Access switch user RSTP

 

Are they can work together ?

yes, they can exist in the network, you need to look at the model of the switch and IOS have any limitations.

 

but when Rapid-PVST able to meet the requirement, what is use case to have RSTP (bit old and legacy still required to 30-50 seconds to converge)

 

you can also look MST if you like, but Rapid is quicker in terms of STP timers and convergence.

That's an "it depends" answer.

I believe it's possible in some cases; don't recall all the specifics.

Probably most likely is if the non rapid-PVST equipment only hosting one VLAN, if it's hosting multiple VLANs, wouldn't expect you to be able to use different links per VLAN (for load sharing purposes) on the non-Cisco equipment.

You could also consider shifting to MST.
