I have 6500 core switch with 2500W power supply, and I want to install a second power supply with 3000W ? is this applicable ? if yes, is there a specific configuration that must be done ? Thanks

Best Regards,

Osama

No extra configuration needed but are you running PoE?

Check out the Cisco Power Calculator.

So is it applicable ? I can have a mix of 2500 and 3000 ? and Yes I am running PoE.

Does it affect anything ?

PoE?  How many PoE line cards (specify the model number and the quanty)?

Like I said, learn how to use the Cisco Power Calculator.

Hi,

I just experienced the same scenario. Here is what I found out:

Table 13-1 from http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/15.1SY/config_guide/sup720/power.html#wp1020384

To make this work, here are the steps:

  • •1.    Configure combined mode (redundancy disabled). Command: power redundancy-mode combined
  • •2.    Insert 3000W PSU.
