cannot ping between switch loopback interfaces

Hello, I have configured two switches with loopback interfaces (both on same subnet). The two switches are connected with a trunk. Why can I not ping between these two switches (loopback addresses). Are loopback interfaces on switches not supposed to be used this way ?

Hello

Loopbacks can be used for sourcing snmp/vtp/ntp messages etcc or as router-id's for routing protocols from a L3 switch.

However, these interfaces are virutal interfces they cannot be assigned to a vlan, so unless you have  a valid path to these loopbacks (ei L2 possible static mac or L3 - routing) then they wont be able to reach each other.

It might be helpful to know what kind/what model of switch these are. But I will assume that they are some type of layer 3 switch. One important thing to keep in mind for understanding the issue in this question is that each switch has an interface in the same subnet. So each switch will treat the subnet as local to itself. And it will not be able to reach the other loopback because it assumes that the other loopback is in the same subnet and the subnet is local so it will not go to the other switch to get to its loopback.
