Cascading a Cisco Non-Managed Switch to a Cisco 2960-X Port

I have an installation using several 2960-X switches in a stacked configuration. Due to wiring restrictions, one of the 2960-X switch ports is connected to a 5-port Cisco non-managed switch in a remote location that serves several devices. When connecting the Cisco switch, the corresponding interface/port on the 2960-X goes up and down every 2-3 minutes. I replaced the Cisco switch with a simple 5-port Linksys hub and the problem went away. As an additional data point, I tried a different 5-port Cisco non-managed switch and it exhibited the same symptoms as the original 5-port Cisco switch. The log files do not contain any information other than the interface/port going up and down when connected to the switch. Should the 2960-X port be configured in a specific way in order to support cascaded Cisco non-managed ports? The 5-port Cisco switch connected to the 2960-X is an mdix capable gigabit switch. Thanks for any insight.

It should work with no configuration at all.  Try setting the duplex and speed to mach the unmanged switch and test again.
