Catalyst 3750G. Stackingports 1 and 2 question.

Hi all.

I usually connect 3750 switches with the stackwise ports from port 1 on the first switch to 2 on the second. And then back from port 1 on the second to port 2 on the first. Standard setup.

If more then 2 switches it is still connected in the same manner, I.e from port 1 to 2.

Have anyone had a problem when not connecting in this way?

I meen f ex between port 1 to port 1 and back between port 2 to port 2, or in a stack with more switches there could be more ways of connecting.

Is there a difference on how the stacking function handles this?

Hi Robert,

Yes, you can connect in same manner e.g

switch a : stack port 1 -----> switch b stack port 2

switch b : stack port 1 -----> switch c stack port 2

switch c : stack port 1 -----> switch a stack port 2

or else

switch a : stack port 1 -----> switch b stack port 1

switch b : stack port 2 -----> switch c stack port 2

switch c : stack port 1 -----> switch a stack port 2

See the section following sections in mentioned links. If you connect the stacks in wrong manner you will have issues like Half Bandwidth connections , Partitioned stack.
