Catalyst 5000 switch interface/port MAC address (CatOS)

Hi,

I am looking for a command that can provide the MAC addresses of ports/interfaces on the Catalyst switch (not MAC address table).

To be clear, 'show module' has the following output, with range of MAC addresses in each module:

Cat-5000>show module

Mod Module-Name Ports Module-Type Model Serial-Num Status
--- ------------------- ----- --------------------- --------- --------- -------
1 2 100BaseTX Supervisor WS-X5509 001212121 ok
2 1 Route Switch WS-X5302 012121212 ok
3 24 10/100BaseTX Ethernet WS-X5225R 013141412 ok

Mod MAC-Address(es) Hw Fw Sw
--- -------------------------------------- ------ ---------- -----------------
1 00-10-0b-0e-28-00 to 00-10-0b-0e-28-ff 2.1 2.4(1) 4.1(3)
2 00-e0-1e-94-c8-1c to 00-e0-1e-90-c8-1d 7.6 20.20 12.0(7)W5(16)
3 00-d0-d3-d3-56-48 to 00-d0-d3-d3-56-5f 3.3 4.3(1) 4.1(3)

Mod Sub-Type Sub-Model Sub-Serial Sub-Hw
--- -------- --------- ---------- ------
1 EARL 1+ WS-F5511 0007212121 1.0

Is there a command that can provide the MAC address for each port in the module, rather than just the range? (On Cisco IOS, 'show interface' has this info, but not here)

Thanks!

John,

Just out of curiosity ... how long has this switch been running , and for what are you still using it ?

This is a CatOS reference for Cat 6500, so not sure if this is the same command, but you can try (thanks to colleague for getting this) :

https://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/catos/8.x/command/reference/OL_8977.pdf#page=1341

Console> show port mac-address 2/1

Port     Mac address

----- ----------------------

2/1      00-50-3e-7e-71-3c

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the reply.

I realize that this particular switch might be very old. I don't think it is being actively used for any purpose. I believe it's used solely for testing/R&D purposes.

Alas, the command you provided does not work on this particular model. It must have been introduced later.

Cat-5000>show version

WS-C5000 Software, Version McpSW: 4.1(3) NmpSW: 4.1(3)
Copyright (c) 1995-1998 by Cisco Systems
NMP S/W compiled on Aug 18 1998, 11:03:25
MCP S/W compiled on Aug 18 1998, 11:13:25

System Bootstrap Version: 2.4(1)

Hardware Version: 2.1 Model: WS-C5000 Serial #: 001212121

But I guess your solution is quite helpful for later versions.

Thanks,

John
