Hello. I need some assistance. We need to reset to factory settings and blank passwords in a Catalyst 6513 switch, with the following specs:
Supervisor Engine WS-SUP32-10GE-3B
System Bootstrap, Version 12.2(18r)SX9, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
Cat6k-Sup32 platform with 524288 Kbytes of main memory
Cisco Internetwork Operating System Software
IOS (tm) s3223_rp Software (s3223_rp-ADVENTERPRISEK9_WAN-M), Version 12.2(18)SXF17a, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

(I hope this is enough information).
We have the opportunity to buy this switch, used, but the guy who sells it doesn't have any knowledge (he received it as payment from a bankrupt company who owed him). We need to make sure we can use it, configure it and so on.
We found the documents with the procedure:
That we followed in this way:
- we connected, booted the switch, waited until the break command should be sent, sent it, and we landed in rommon
- we executed "confreg 0x2142", and reset
- we got the "Would you like to enter the initial configuration dialog? [yes/no]" sentence, but if I recall correctly, we wrote "no" but didn't press ENTER (I'm not really sure).
- after that, apparently the software started to crash, with messages like this:
%Software-forced reload
Breakpoint exception, CPU signal 23, PC = 0x4040FFEC
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*** System received a Software forced crash ***
signal= 0x17, code= 0x24, context= 0x42392f94
PC = 0x40402b3c, SP = 0x415e6af0, RA = 0x403fd8bc
Cause Reg = 0x00001020, Status Reg = 0x34008002
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Autoboot: failed, BOOT string is empty
Autoboot executing command: "boot "
Initializing ATA monitor library...
boot: cannot determine first file name on device "bootdisk:"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAC based EOBC installed
Active crashed three times, disabling auto-boot and dropping to rommon
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll attach a capture (which we started when rebooting the switch for the first time after executing "confreg 0x2142")
That's what we did when we arranged to go test the switch before buying. Because we couldn't get it to work, we told the seller that we would investigate some more and then try again.
So I would need some advice for the next time we go and try it.
The procedure in the documentation, is correct for this switch model and firmware/OS?
Is there a way to know the cause of the error codes that I pasted above (or in the capture attached)?
Maybe the switch was defaulted when decommissioned in the previous company, how can we tell?
The software the switch is running, can or should be upgraded?
Thanks!!

If my memory is correct, Sup32 line card has a tiny "Reset" button.

Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately, while the WS-SUP32-GE-3B does have the RESET button, the one we are referring to is the WS-SUP32-10GE-3B, which doesn't have the button.
Regards!

That is the document we were trying to follow, as I said and linked in the body of my post. The problem wasn't finding the doc, the problems presented as we followed the procedure, the software crashes and exceptions I quoted in the description and in the attached capture.

%Software-forced reload
The reason why the supervisor card is a potential IOS fault.
So force the supervisor card to boot a more rescent IOS, like SXI train.

Thank you.
I don't really know how to do that. Is there a document you can point me to, or do you know the procedure?

The Sup32 line card has an external compact flash (CF) slot doesn't it?
This is, by far, the easiest and quickest method to get the IOS in.
